![]() ![]() If you can sell it, sell it (though it wont sell for much). However, I barely broke even when I sold it after all the repairs were taken care of. 01-03 Civics, from what I've heard, are plagued with this transmission problem. the 7th gen was also plagued with head gasket failures as well. i ended up trading my 2001 for $1000 since the lower serpentine pulley seized and the cost was like $600 to $800 to repair it. I wouldn't spend too much money on it and would probably buy another car. The reality is that if it is your tranny, the car isn't worth much as no one would buy it. i can't recall what causes it but the 7th gen civic auto tranny has to rank as the crappiest tranny ever. My 2001 had the same symptoms as yours and the tranny died soon after i changed the tranny oil at the dealer. my 2001 auto tranny died about 180k? i bought a swap tranny and got it done for about $1400 total. I know of a couple of Honda CRVs for example, that are past 500,000 km and still on their original engine and transmission. More importantly.have you got enough money to get another car if you sell this one ?Ī well maintained Civic should be able to hit 500,000 km. AC working well ( AC are pricey repairs ) ? Is your catalytic converter in good shape ( cats are expensive ) ? How's the body and undercarriage - i.e what's the extent of rust on fuel and brake lines ( these lines are pricey to replace ) and body panels ? How's the engine - i.e does it burn a significant amount of oil ? Whether it's a good idea to sell it or not depends - in part - on the overall condition of your car. If decided to keep it after fixing, how long will it last?Ĭan anyone recommend a GOOD mechanic in Dundas West area? I was wondering if it is a good idea to sell it? How much can I sell it for with this issue? My mechanic quote me for $1400 TO REBUILD AND $900 FOR USED. The mechanic said it was a transmission problem. My engine light in the dashboard on, my Gear D & D3 light is blinking. There comes a point when even if the engine and transmission are good, the underbody becomes rusted to the point it's a hazard to drive (IMO when you should replace a car over repairing it).Ĭan anyone give me an idea what to do with my Honda Civic 2002, 203 K, transmission problem please. You should check the under body though, because Canadian winters might have taken a toll on it. But with that issue you'd be lucky to get $1k out of it.ħth gen Civics are one of the more reliable cars on the road because they're so simple and repairs don't cost much (Aside from major engine and transmission jobs, which are uncommon). I see 7th gen Civics with 200k being listed at $5k or so. IT MIGHT be a transmission related problem, the automatics on a 7th gen are very unreliable, but it's better to be 100% certain. If you can barely accelerate it's usually a problem with the engine. The mechanic might just be trying to scam you because a transmission job is very expensive and also because you're a woman. It might not be a problem with the transmission, buy a $15 Bluetooth eBay OBD2 diagnostic and you can check to see what the problem really is. ![]()
